Coffee Mugs

Being found out is not a happy eventuality. Over time I've learned to indirectly look at my victim subject, and feign drawing something else in the same general direction. I gladly risk appearing to be a rather dull artist as oftentimes the thing I'm feigning to draw is something like a wastebasket or bologna sandwich. Still and all, if it keeps me incognito, it's well worth it. I have had some close calls though...

This rather large bulky fellow below seemed fairly aware that I was drawing something, and it wasn't his bologna sandwich; he kept shifting, clearing his throat and throwing me the stink-eye... I went as far as I could before losing my nerve and...

I resorted to drawing this little old man instead.

IF ...paisley

The Beatles were, if not responsible for the psychedelic look, the ones everybody was looking towards for where to go stylistically, (it was Dylan who was supposed to explain what it all meant)... Many consider their stylistic peak to be in the summer of love which coincided with the Paisley pattern's apogee... they really don't have anything to do with each other, but they're related by association... I don't even think they're speaking to each other. (?)

Coffee Mugs

At this point, after intensely focusing (for the past 6 months) on the regulars at Peet's for these 'Coffee Mugs' drawings, I am entertained by the surreal experience of sitting in my corner as my sketchbook comes to life. I'd say about 90% of the folks in my sketchbook are repeat (rePeet?) customers and at any time page number 32 may walk in with page 68 and sit down with pages 16, 18, and 57 who have already finished their coffee, and are chatting across the room to page 3 while page 27 heads towards the bathroom; again. And of course page 14 can never find anyplace to sit down... What a loser page 14 must be... Fun to draw, but I ain't gonna chat him up...

These pages below are evidently all post-caffeine...

IF ...ripple

Bowie certainly sent ripples through the rock world when he tossed Ziggy and Aladdin into the mix, but of course, David was a ripple himself of various other folks... he just did it REALLY well. (and looked real good doing it, too...)
ripples caused ch-ch-changes. hoo-ha?!

IF ...trail

Even Elvis in the 70s must have had his limits (even for chocolate ice cream)... but it was a decade or more before the era of the fad diet books... The USA was not a fat nation then; Elvis, as always, was a trailblazer for America.

Coffee Mugs

Oft times folks seem to have a secret that they keep heavily guarded. I don't get to know the secret, but I do get to draw the packaging of their private skeleton. Beware of pushing too far into these closets...
Some have too many secrets.

Some folks have NO secret to keep, and openly look for one.

While others have no secret, but pretend to have a very important one.

And some have the best secret of all.
