Facial expression can be used as a lead towards your distortion decisions. This entails paying attention to which features are activated and which are in support mode. Sometimes pitting expression against form~insistence works wonders for the soul of the
victim sitter.

I'm glad you made this post..As I have often wondered if caricature artists go outside the' acceptable norms' for a portrait of a famous person. Do some choose another angle and actually get away with it. For instance would a good Prince Charles caricature still be like him without huge ears? I suppose that was a silly question... and if one caught another expression of his perfectly and gave him smaller ears...it would still be him....maybe more so. I like them all but number three has that extra something...what... I don't know!
ReplyDeleteLove the 2nd guy, although I'm a bit concerned about what he intends to do with that thumb...and love the birdlike qualities of the woman below him
ReplyDeleteIn your drawings I find often the likeness of somebody I know. In this case , I recognize all four faces , as very concrete persons, what fits my theory of several "basic" types , "fenotypes" which are repeated with some variations all over the world .I am fascinated how you chose the "right representatives" and how you accurately and
ReplyDeleteappropriately analyze them prior putting on paper .....
Just my thoughts.....
(I enjoy it ) Thanks.
Wat a wonderful cast of characters!. butch, tough, lean and baffled in that order. They are all such strong drawings, but the brainlessness of the top character takes the cake.
