It's always a bit disconcerting to see a solitary person smirking all to themselves.

yes, it is a bit disconcerting. But it is actually strange why we think so. We should experience it just as something very natural , should not we?
ReplyDeleteYou have got a respectable amount of observing talent, Richard!
......always refreshing to be here
You are always so kind.

I think it is the 'smirk' (as opposed to just a 'smile') that tips the balance and keeps things uncomfortable...
Smirking seems to indicate a smugness that seems associated with an unfair advantage or a nefarious plot of some kind.
As well the 'all to themselves' leaves us with no clue as to what is lurking in their, and possibly our, immediate future.
or past.
