I'll opine that Peter Cook would have been an excellent caricaturist had he worked in this arena.
When performing and in character, he had undertones that you needed listen for which were hilarious -and subtle. What he presented us with were minute specifics of personality types informing and simmering beneath the overall thrust of the persona he was being. ---Which is exactly what must be effectuated in caricature.
This was key to his success as a presenter of humanity.
