The Bourdaloue was originally designed for women, although men used it as well --likely without asking permission; it was purportedly named after a Catholic priest in France named Louis Bourdaloue, whose sermons were so long that women brought their Bourdaloue with them so they could attend the entire sermon, uninterrupted.
Sometimes it's all to easy to see what that would look like...
