Coffee was criminal !! pt 7
In Prussia, 1777, Frederick the Great failed to convince the general public that it should exchange their morning java for a morning beer (done so to address concerns of waning beer sales taxes). So in 1781 he made all coffee a royal monopoly and all 'un-regal' coffee became illegal. To enforce the ban he employed disabled soldiers to track down and snuffle out illegally roasted coffees in the villages.
they drank it anyway.
