Coffee Mugs™

Originally, the idea was to dress up as specters on Hallowe'en in order to blend-in.  It was understood that spirits returned to the earth on this day and in order to not be uncomfortably accosted by them, folks would dress up as ghosts in order to commingle surreptitiously ...if they needed to be out of doors.

and yes, even then, some folks didn't need as much dressing up as others...

Coffee was criminal !!  pt 6
In Sweden, circa 1746, King Gustav III banned coffee completely under the impression that coffee was detrimental to public health.  To prove his theory he experimented on imprisoned twins forcing one to drink 3 pots of coffee a day, and the other 3 pots of tea a day, expecting the effects on the coffee prisoner to validate all.  However, Gustav III was assassinated before the experiment was over and was never informed of the tea prisoner living to his 80s and the coffee prisoner living even longer!  The Swedes had been deprived of coffee for no reason.

they drank it anyway.

The original bicycle, the Dandy Horse, was made almost entirely of wood.
It was uncomfortable and dangerous and eventually declared illegal by the police.
If you can find one you could try it and see what you think.

...I wooden, though.

The Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre in 1911.
Guillaume Apollinaire and even Picasso were seriously suspected of the crime. (it wasn't them)
Interestingly, the empty space where La Gioconda used to be attracted more visitors than the painting did.

Coffee was criminal !!  pt 5
King Charles II of England shut down all coffee houses completely and banned the selling of coffee beans altogether in 1675 due to tracing seditious poetry to these sober institutions.  The public response was quite severe and, within a week-and-a-half, he reversed his decision. Banning the beverage didn't work.

Scopophobia is an anxiety disorder that is marked by a morbid fear of being seen or stared at by others.

I'm sorry to hear that...

Metal dip pens have been around since ancient Egypt but weren't used much, as they were not as reliable as the feather quill.  It wasn't until about 1822 in England that the manufacture of the dip pen nibs was consistent enough to mass produce, and their popularity took off from that point!
We still use them for drawing; should we still use them for writing?

Coffee was criminal !!  pt 4
Coffee was illegal in Istanbul in the 1630s when Murad IV banned it along with alcohol and tobacco. He purportedly policed the enforcement of this himself at times by dressing up in civilian clothes at night and lurking about in various low-end taverns and coffee shops, beheading the transgressors on the spot!

I am informed that you can't smell when asleep.
I find this highly suspect having had two boys who in their infancy both smelled to high heaven at times while sound asleep.

You'll be happy to know they smell just fine nowadays...

The heaviest internal organ is not the brain -even if you're smarter than everyone else.
The heaviest internal organ is the liver which runs around three and half pounds... it's also the largest internal organ.
Folks who abuse alcohol and have enlarged livers can top the list.

-however, record-breaking is no reason to make your liver wurst.

In 1622 Osman II, sultan of the Ottoman empire in Turkey, closed down all the coffee shops in an effort to eliminate the rebellious elite guard's gathering places for their conspiracies against the throne.
Within months Osman II was imprisoned and strangled to death. Now known for eliminating coffee from the citizenry...

Come in looking like an average everyman/woman and I'll find someone else to draw.
Come in already looking like a caricature and I'll find someone else to draw.
Come in looking like a high-end fashion model and I'll find someone else to draw.
...I much prefer to draw between the lines.
