IF ...puzzled

It was always quite puzzling to figure out what exactly was going on in most of M. C. Escher's imagery. What appeared in was out, what went up went down, what was right was left us wondering how what happened who? ~heh?

This is my 100th straight IF image. (and an ironically a crooked one at that)

  1. Congrats, Richard with your 100th piece. Enjoyable as usual. Escher had more influence on than he ever would dream off .....I have visited Escher exhibitions a few times, always puzzling .....

    Nice drawing.

  2. Wonderfully twisted painting with a strong silhouette structure. I'm loving the drawing of the all the hairy parts. Congratulation on number 100, amazing!

  3. WOOHOO!!! 100!!!
That is quite an accomplishment. Especially so, considering you haven't missed a week since you began, 23 months ago. You ready to put 'em in a book now?

    Your Escher is nicely twisted.

May your next 100 be twice as much fun.

  4. Holy cow, grats on 100 IF straight! This is such a weird image but so well done! You really merged the two sections seamlessly with the mustache and the result is really cool. Also creepy. The crazy hair and eyebrows are really great!

  5. Isn't it interesting that just about every artist knows Escher's work, he affected us all. Nice piece.

Regarding Robert Johnson; I read that when Brian Jones played Keith Richards some of his recordings for the first time, he asked, "Who is the second guitar player"? I like that, since Robert Johnson was a solo artist.
    Yeah, he was good.

  6. Isn't it ironic when you claim this image to be the ironic twisted one?..when you seem to twist and turn every face to its limits each week with such expertise! Maybe you are the Escher of the the caricature world. I think Illustration Friday owe you an interview at least!
Congratulations on 100 straight....a record probably that will or never has been repeated..

  7. i really like the sketches where you are working through the structure of the problem. it is such a nutty piece but holds together very well and keeps the eye moving around and around looking for the solution.
the pattern on the jacket and that groovy tie are a nice touch!
