Oprah's roundness was more than once the cultural quandary of the moment... she sucked her followers into her roly poly trials, and in the end made roundness more acceptable than ever before, even chic and stylish.

Hm. You're giving her a lot of credit for societal acceptance of heavier women. Then again, she was/is a kind of ridiculously huge crazy phenomena.
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration with such great style! And I love the progress pics. Sometimes I'm surprised more people don't do them, but just because I picked up a relatively cheap scanner recently doesn't mean everyone has one. Also, you have to remember to stop and take a picture or whatever.
I don't do different versions though, like you clearly have. Do you recommend it, at least once in a while?
Yes I do actually.
ReplyDeleteI often find that I like my latter studies and drawings far better than the first attempt. Occasionally, the first one is the best, but that's uncommon.
Thanks for the comment and question.
.
I agree different versions..making studies lets you see your options. Great study of 'O'...like the fact you dropped her nose and emphasised her mouth...that shiney lipped mouth.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good choice! I like that you've filled the entire picture frame with her bubbly persona. And how you've cleverly tucked in your signature. I wonder though, why no nose? Did she give that away too? Michael Jackson needed one. The thumbnails and progress pics are always interesting ... I like your first one, the snow man.
ReplyDeleteoooooh my! those lips and mouth, nice use of the picture plane and your drawings/final piece are built on the "O" just like Oprah, cool; form and content become one.
ReplyDeletegreat final drawing and sketches, the mouth looks amazing!
ReplyDeletegreat lips!. she is ready for her close-up. i didn't even notice the lack of nose till I read mardi's post. The subtle circle pattern is a nice touch. I also really like the uneven skin tone wash. Over all it is Big, Bold and Beautiful just like Oprah.
ReplyDeleteAs always very enjoyable. Drawing with a big O, Oh, my O!
ReplyDeleteI like the wide angle approach in your final picture... it makes this drawing stronger
