There was a real Eleanor Rigby born in 1895, lived in Liverpool, and died at age 44, ~~any real information about her is lost to posterity, but her namesake became world renowned a quarter of a century later as one of the most famous of our "lost & lonelies".
Wow, what a cool effect! So sad and a little gruesome at the same time with that mask. At least, it looks like a mask to me. And it has this super cool cutout type effect with the black and white against the color. Great color and detail in the clothing. Great concept for the topic!
It appears you've had a monumental creative breakthrough, Richard. Congrats! This new technique of drop shadowing/paper cutout looks fantastic. The 2D merging to 3D is expertly achieved, with the realism of the ear being visually arresting. I'm especially fond of the color transitions in Eleanor's shaw. Bravo!
I enjoyed your thumbnails too. Who's the little pixie?
I find this piece disturbing, but I'm not exactly sure why. I'm sure the b/w vs. color is part of it, but maybe it's because she seems unhappy? Something to contemplate at any rate while the Beatles play in my mind :)
i am always amazed of you ideas Mr. Ewing always come on with some interesting idea.really enjoyed you process with thumbnails. so whats inside that jar Mr.Ewing?
I am enjoying your experimentation with the cut paper look. The use of color is also very effective. That little bit of blue disturbs the usually harmonious color partnership of violet and green. the saturation of the violet is lovely and really sets of the mask.

ReplyDeleteThanks Giovanni,
Delete...Well, she keeps the face that she wears in that jar by the door.
(there's a few extra still waiting to be worn in there now).
.
THat 'jar by the door' always crept up on me and stayed in my mind. Hats off to you, Richard. This one is spot on.
ReplyDeleteHaunting, your image emulates the essence of the song.
