The Beatles were, if not responsible for the psychedelic look, the ones everybody was looking towards for where to go stylistically, (it was Dylan who was supposed to explain what it all meant)... Many consider their stylistic peak to be in the summer of love which coincided with the Paisley pattern's apogee... they really don't have anything to do with each other, but they're related by association... I don't even think they're speaking to each other. (?)
