IF ...layer

"Never, never, never, never ~in nothing, great or small, large or petty, ~never give in!" This multi-layered quote after the blitz in 1941 came from the multi-layered Winston Churchill, the British Bulldog, fiercely inspiring his country to persevere.

  1. Richard, this is a wonderful illo! I really like the cool palette and how you've graduated the tones across your canvas. It makes me continue to explore the less defined areas on the left ... I especially like Churchill's ears and feet, and you've captured his eyes beautifully.

  3. I always love seeing your process and how you maintain so much of the character between original sketch and completed piece. You are a master of the lines.

Thank you for your candid comments on my 'bug' blog post. I agree and struggle with that very thing as I work to hone and define my style. All the best.

  6. Churchill was a hero in our home when I was growing up. his signed portrait hung in the living room. My mum is a Brit. You really captured his bull dog personality. i especially like the way he emerges out of the smoke filled room and the violet tones.
