IF ...highlight

Our Roman goddess of freedom, Libertas, was at one point slated to be holding a broken chain, but it was considered too hot an item in the post-Civil-War era... Instead, the chain was placed under her feet & robes, and in one hand she holds a tablet; in the other ~~one of the highest~lights in the United States.

  5. ~~pithless on purpose.
I spent a bit of time deciding how to handle the final eyeball; I found the more pith I added the less statuesque she became, so the blunk eyeball was landed on more as a visual solution than as an editorial comment.

  6. She is one massive goddess. Her feet alone are the size of tugboats. The eyeball makes a poignant statement about the state of America today. While the politicians preach the American dream, they siphon our wealth right before out eyes. We stand strong; immobilized and powerless.

I know this is a minor player, but I really like how you handled the ear – like a fat piece of fettucini. Nice subject for this week's word, Richard. Beautiful line work and color.

  7. I had the pleasure of spending the stroke of midnight on a NYC roof top, watching the fire works in the distance around the statue of liberty. Being surrounded by so many people on that little island is kind of freaky. I was on the sixth floor and the noise coming from all around the city was almost overwhelming. Fun though!
    Happy New Year!

  9. Such a strong yet elegant figure. I love the sculptural planes and the coppery green. The perspective of the crown is also quite nice. I am drawn to the eye and it's watchful and concerned gaze.

    Happy New Year!

  11. The strong structure of the planes really supports the smooth lines and color of the finish. Libertas has a watchful eye on the scene much like the fellow in the bandanna who is part of a very delightful page of drawings. Are those the Beatles, too?

  14. Modeling is great, as always, but the negative spaces on this one sing, really sing.
