IF ...faded

By some accounts, president Ronald Reagan began showing preliminary signs of Alzheimer's in the last few years of his presidency. ~~By the mid-90s he was suffering the full-on effects of the disease, which he endured for nearly 10 years, until his death in 2004. He was 93.
Regardless of what you think of his policies and presidency, Alzheimer's is a fate no one should bear.

  1. Nice idea...I like the faded Regan, sadly, it seems to portray him too well.

  2. I do too. It is a beautiful beautiful portrait, that really captures what seems to have been going on with Reagan. It's tragic, and the person does seem to just fade away. The suit is still there--and solid--but the man.....Wow.

  3. Richard, this is so beautifully portrayed and a very unique, original interpretation for Fade. I love the subdued palette and movement of the washes. The way you created the transparency is terrific.

It was so sad watching his descent from the leader of the most powerful nation on earth to a soul with no connection with reality.

  4. Great answer for "faded"! I think one thing everyone can agree on about Reagan is that he did put a face on Alzheimer's and bring more attention to the disease.

  5. I like the massiveness of the suit and the way you captured Reagan's posture.I love the hues and tones in the suit as well

The fading of the person is thoughtfully handled...it is almost as if he unaware of his diminishing presence.

    1. I think at some point his being unaware of diminishing may have just been the case...

  6. I really like the contrast between the simplicity of the power suit and the complicated intricate "political" drawing of the face and hands. I agree that the slow subtle fade is right on.
