Banned for life from baseball along with 7 other White Sox players for involvement in the 1919 'Black Sox' scandal (where several players conspired to intentionally lose the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds), Shoeless Joe Jackson was by some accounts not entwined --other camps have him squarely involved... With the 3rd highest career batting average in baseball history he haunts the halls of The Baseball Hall of Fame.

love it :D
ReplyDeleteTrue stories can sometimes be the most haunting. Love the sketches!
ReplyDeleteInteresting story that you encouraged me look up as I know of nothing about baseball..thanks...nice touch with the ball on a string.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rod.
DeleteIt was a fascinating, if dark, time for baseball...
Since this week the World Series was played (happily won by my team: the San Francisco Giants!) I thought this might be a more interesting haunting than the expected Hallowe'en fodder.
.
Poor Joe. I especially like the cut out of the ball in contrast to the painting. Nice!
ReplyDeleteMoody, darker style. Very fitting! The shadow on the ball and string is perfect. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteNice twist on "haunt", I like the interplay between Shoeless Joe in the shadows and the hung baseball in the foreground. The sepia palette fits the story.
ReplyDeleteoooh, very Dark. Great for the topic 'haunt' Beautiful.
ReplyDeletewonderfully conceptualized. Great image in the final.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a very moving illustration of the staining of a reputation. There is a wonderful feeling of suspension with the ball...it reminds me of a Cornell box
