"Great theories are expansive; failures mire us in dogmatism and tunnel vision." Stephen Jay Gould lived in the present while studying the prehistoric past and was himself a bridge facilitating the relevance of one to the other. ~~big fan of baseball as well!
It was a wonderful life.

He looks like such a pleasant chap. No doubt, all those lectures at Harvard and theories voiced into books have left his jaw agape, or maybe it's just idling, like a running motor anticipating acceleration. Or could it be Gould's own state of punctuated equilibrium? I like how you've rendered his hair so loosely.
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteSolid as fossilized bone. i especially like the way the planes of the hair materialize out of the negative space.
