I like your new painterly approach, Rick! The broad brush strokes across the chin and top of hair are really exciting. It looks like you're incorporating pastel or charcoal, too. Could this possibly be true?
thanks Mardi. no, no pastel OR charcoal ~~it's all acrylic paint with black (India mostly) ink ...as per usual. I'm just pushing and pulling it as much as I can.
I love the complex psychological tension that you suggested with the diagonals. There is defiance, resistance, agony and despair. It is a very strong piece.
Thanks for pointing me to Alan E. Cober. I didn't recognize the name, but googling him, I sure recognize some of his illustrations, and I'll check him out.

Another visual treat! I love the intensity in his expression! The exaggerated mouth is splendid! I was thinking maybe Custer... I was close :o)
