IF ...jump

Julius Caesar jumped from Roman general to Roman 'dictator-in-perpetuity' in a few short years. Soon found himself jumped on by a passel of senators who had other ideas in mind for running Rome; they left him to die with 23 stab wounds.

  1. This is quite disturbing...in a good way. Julius Caesar had quite the historical impact, but here the impact is all form behind. Poor guy, didn't see it coming.

I love the colors...especially the royal purple sash.

  2. Wow! You really nailed this one. The force of impact moving through his body to his popping eyeballs is fantastic and the subtle blood splatters and suggested knife shape are satisfying discovery items amid the solid line work and color. Those non-tracking eyeballs are hilarious – a nice contrast to a horrific event.

    Your pencil drawing is stellar.
I just can't get enough of your stuff!

  3. Eeeek, zombie Caesar! I've never seen such a wonderfully rendered explosion of eyeballs. The hand is really great and also love the progression sketches.

In looking at your quick sketches I am very intrigued by what might have happened if you had chosen the cow. :)

    1. Choosing the cow would have been a jump from my typical subject matter...

    2. Would it have been a cow jumping over the moon? :D

    3. yes, but in my thumbnail, that cow was looking a bit on the doubtful side, so I opted for Mr. Caesar.

  4. Life can be so tough for tyrants. I love the way his eyes are popping. You always give me new ways to look at the people you paint. Thanks!
