IF ...boundaries

"Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth". Pablo Picasso not only pushed boundaries, in many cases, he lost boundaries altogether ~and set new ones that were entirely his own. In terms of art he set no limits and thereby created fresh boundaries for others to follow.

  1. Very inspirated, Richard. The long distance look at the future of my compatriot Pablo Picasso is very protagonist in your drawing. As it must be.

  2. I guessed that you might do Pablo Picasso this week when I saw the IF theme (then I thought you would probably go another way). This pose reminds me of the footage of Picasso painting a bull in white from behind a glass window.

  3. Brilliant. Wonderful. I think you've broken you're own boundaries, Richard. I just love this. The broad, flat brush strokes in this composition make Picasso look like he's illuminating. Which, of course, he is. Or did. Nice 2D contrast in style on his hands and shirt – just a sprinkling of Marcel Marceau. Pendientes!

  4. Nice work. I love the way that you fractured he planes melding the figure with the ground. the eyes are stunning and love the little dash of white hair. The mimed suggestion of the picture plane is also nice. I find myself miming picture planes quite often in the perspective class.

  5. I like that quote a lot (in fact, I have a number of similar quotes by writers, and I believe it with my whole heart). Great portrait, with something deeper than mere surface appearances. It seems to reflect the fractured way one might view the world.

  6. Wow, a lot of light as Picasso feels his way through the world. Cubist and formal together. Great eyes.

  8. This is wonderful! Brilliant interpretation and the feeling of being 'trapped' within boundaries is heightened by the energetic fractured planes of colour.
